Through this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine, SEGA announced its upcoming game, Puyo Puyo Chronicle, to celebrate the Puyo Puyo series’ 25th anniversary. Check out the first trailer of this puzzle RPG below!
The official website has revealed more detail about the game. Meet Arle, the game’s protagonist who gets sucked into an alternate world in mysterious picture book with her partner, Carbuncle. To return to their world, Arle and Carbuncle need to work with a mysterious girl named Arie.
As for the feature, Puyo Puyo Chronicle’s main feature is the RPG Mode. All the characters and fields are 3D, and in the game you’ll be able to control 3D model characters to freely explore the 3D field. There are many main quests to do in RPG mode. However, in addition to the main story, the game gives us over 60 sub-quests.
In the main story, there is a rule called Skill Battle. In this rule, you form teams each of which consists of up to three characters. You can increase their levels by fighting monsters in the format of action puzzle, which is familiar to past Puyo Puyo games. In addition to Skill Battle rule, the game still has 17 different popular rules such as Puyo Puyo Tsu, Puyo Puyo Fever, and more. You can also get to fight against other players online in the Internet Versus mode. The game also offers a mode called Boss Fight with Everyone mode where you’ll team up with a party of four to take on a boss. Defeating powerful bosses let you get some rare items. After meeting certain requirements, you will enter Fever Mode for massive damage.
Puyo Puyo Chronicle will be released in Japan on December 8, 2016 for Nintendo 3DS.
