Square Enix is holding the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival at Frankfurt, Germany, and the event started with an opening keynote, revealing things that fans have been waiting for since the previous Fan Festival in Tokyo.
First off the keynote started off with a full, extended trailer of the Stormblood expansion, which will be released globally on June 20, 2017. Check out the trailer below!
As you can see from the trailer above, Stormblood is not all about liberating Ala Mhigo from the Garlean Empire. Square Enix is taking our journey in Eorzea to the far eastern continent of Othard, introducing areas in the continent, and also confirming that Samurai is the second job to be made available in the expansion, aside from Red Mage.
NEW JOB – SAMURAI
There have been many speculations on what the second job would be since director and producer Naoki Yoshida hinted with a Spider-Man T-shirt. People associated the Spider-Man hint with Blue Mage since Spider-Man got his ability by a spider-bite, and it’s quite similar to how Blue Mages obtain abilities. Apparently, the hint was pointing towards Sam Raimi, the director of the three Spider-Man movies in the early 2000s, and the Japanese pronunciation for Sam Raimi is Samu Raimi.
Here are the details of the new job.
Naoki Yoshida also mentioned that Samurai will be sharing the same equipment with Monk as the two jobs rely on the STR attribute.
Square Enix also showcased the job in action with an in-game footage. Take a look at the video below, as provided by YouTube user Aether Chronicles.
Doma is one of those areas in the far eastern continents that is still under Garlean Empire’s reign. As we move to the east, we will also be liberating this area from the Garlean Empire.
Kugane will be one of the cities that we will be able to visit later in the expansion. It is a port town off the island chain of Hingashi which observes a strict isolationist policy.
Check out the in-game screenshots of Kugane below. Click on the respective images to enlarge.
Yanxia is also one of those areas that are under Garlean control. Players can expect a lot of confrontations to happen in this area.
The Azim Steppe
The Azim Steppe is a vast plains area located in the Othard continent, which is also the home to the Au Ra race. Take a look at the screenshots below. Click on the respective images to enlarge.
One of the dungeon that will be made available in Stormblood was showcased. Yoshida didn’t mention anything much about the new dungeon, but it looked like a ship graveyard.
NEW RESIDENTIAL AREA – SHIROGANE
In addition to the three current residential area (Lavender Beds, Mist, and The Goblet), Square Enix will be adding the fourth residential area in the next expansion. It is called Shirogane, a residential area with a far eastern-vibe. However, players will not be able to purchase the estate right away at launch.
NEW BEST TRIBE – KOJIN
The new beast tribe to be introduced in the new expansion is the Kojin. These tortoise-like people are very skilled traders who live on or near the Ruby Sea. They even have an underwater settlement, as shown in the trailer above.
NEW PRIMAL – SUSANO
Just like any other beast tribes, they also have a primal to worship to, which is Susano, Lord of the Revel. Susano is the second original primal to be introduced in Final Fantasy XIV after Ravana.
NEW THEME SONG – REVOLUTIONS
Near the end of the keynote, composer Nobuo Uematsu went up to the stage. After previously composed “Answers” for A Realm Reborn and “Dragonsong” fro Heavensward, he is also composing the theme song for Stormblood, which is titled “Revolutions”, with Susan Calloway again on the vocal. The song itself is was previewed at the end of the keynote, and the song is about humanity, strength, and weakness.
