Ever since The Pokémon Company reveal the Pokémon coming to Pokémon Sun & Moon, a lot of reaction about the funny Alolan forms of previous Pokémon are coming. If you are one of those people who see them as funny, then maybe this report is interesting for you. Kotaku recently spoke with Game Freak’s Junichi Masuda, producer of Pokémon Sun & Moon, and Shigeru Ohmori, the director, about the design in the game. We’ve summarized the interview for you below!

  • Jangmo-o was the first critter Pokémon designed for the latest generation.

  • Alolan Exeggutor is the most fun to be designed! They said, when the designers come up with the idea, the background is that the sun in Alola is so strong that Exeggutor keeps growing and growing!

  • The funny design is intentional, since it is the series’ 20th anniversary. They want to hold special surprise for the anniversary!

  • Professor Kukui, notable for bringing the thirst to the fans for being shirtless, was actually not designed to be cooler or prettier. There is a reason why he is underdressed: it is merely because the weather is hot.
