Tokyo Game Show 2017

It feels like only yesterday that NieR: Automata gets its release date revealed in Tokyo Game Show 2016, but now we’re already here once again; in September, the month of another Tokyo Game Show! Time sure goes so fast, doesn’t it? Of course, Tokyo Game Show 2017 brings different, fresh news compared to the previous old news from Tokyo Game Show 2016 (obviously!). Other news coming from outside the event appear, too. Let’s check the summary of RPG & VN news from this month!

  • Tokyo Game Show 2017

Tokyo Game Show 2017

Tokyo Game Show 2017 is held this month, from 21st until 24th September 2017. As expected, quite a number of companies reveal news about their upcoming games in this event, such as Square Enix, Atlus, Bandai Namco, and more. This year’s Tokyo Game Show has 254,311 people attending which details can be seen here. And then, brace yourself, guys, as Tokyo Game Show 2018 is announced! This next event will be held on September 20th until 23rd, 2018, at the Makuhari Messe center.

New games announced

  • Battle of Blades

Battle of Blades - Feature

Square Enix is making a new mobile arena game, Battle of Blades! The game will launch on both Android and iOS as a freemium 4-on-4 fantasy battle arena! It is planned to release in Japan this year. While waiting for it to release, let’s check more teasers here!

  • Dx2 Shin Megami Tensei: Liberation

DX2 Shin Megami Tensei Liberation MAIN PICC 221

Atlus announced the very first mobile title of the Shin Megami Tensei series titled Dx2 Shin Megami Tensei: Liberation! The game is currently still in development and will be available for both Android and iOS. Not much information about the game has been released yet, but you can see the first teaser trailer here!

Square Enix has published the game digitally via PlayStation Store, complete with additional features over the original such as an HD graphics, auto-saves, trophies, and many additional modes! The game is currently priced at $20.99.

  • Dragon’s Crown Pro

Dragon's Crown ProDuring a TGS conference, Atlus announced that Dragon’s Crown will be getting a PS4 port as Dragon’s Crown Pro! The game will have 4K resolution and a new orchestrated recording for its music alongside a limited “Royal Package” edition for the Japan release, containing a set of three soundtrack CDs, special booklet, and an animated art book .

  • Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice

Ace Attorney - Spirit of Justice - FeatureCapcom has announced a mobile port for Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice! Priced at $19.99, the game is now available for both iOS and Android for North America and Europe! The port will include every episodes from the original 3DS version alongside the newest DLC.

  • Avabel Online

Avabel OnlineDuring the Tokyo Game Show, developer Asobimo announced that their mobile MMORPG Avabel Online will be ported to multiple platforms! As of now, the announced platforms are: PC, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. No release date has been announced as of yet.

  • Lucky Dog 1

Lucky Dog 1 - FeatureDeveloper Prototype announced a PS Vita port for BL visual novel Lucky Dog 1! The popular jailbreak mafia series is currently already available for PC and mobiles (Android and iOS), with the upcoming port arriving soon in 2018!

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DanaUnfortunate news for PC gamers! Unlike the PS Vita and PS4 versions which are already available, the popular RPG series Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana for PC is currently getting delayed, without a fixed date.

  • Vampyr

Vampyr LogoDontnod Entertainment has announced that their upcoming RPG Vampyr is getting delayed! The game was previously projectd to release this November, but a technical issue has now pushed the release schedule back to 2018. The game will be available for PC, Xbox One, and PS4.

  • Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection

Zwei: The Ilvard InsurrectionXSEED Games just announced that Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection will be getting a delay! Originally released as Zwei II in Japan by acclaimed RPG developers Nihon Falcom, the standalone title will arrive this Summer, after previously projected to release this Fall.

Previously known as Atelier Lydie and Soeur, now known as Lydie and Suelle. The alchemists have decided they’re going western! Now we can join their adventure to become the best Alchemists of Mysterious Painting!

And that’s all for this month! It’s surprising that the news about RPG and visual novel this month is still less than the previous month despite Tokyo Game Show 2017 being held this month. Quantity is different from quality, though! For example, the release of  Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice and Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony this month makes me so excited!
