News of the Month – October 2016

Kingdom Hearts III Screenshots - Guard Form

For me, there’s a lot of hype train going on in October. Nintendo‘s newest console was officially announced (the idea and the concept is brilliant), Final Fantasy XIV gets a new expansion (the trailer looks super cool), and a lot of great news on the Kingdom Hearts series; those things are more than enough to make me board on the hype train. Without further ado, here’s our monthly recap for October 2016.


Special highlight

  • Nintendo Switch

Nintendo NX Revealed as Nintendo Switch

The rumored Nintendo NX had finally revealed to the public in October! Officially announced as Nintendo Switch, the console appears to be a home console-handheld hybrid that has detachable controllers. Click here to see more details about this.

  • Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood & Kingdom Hearts Massive Updates

Final Fantasy XIV - Stormblood

It’s finally announced! Final Fantasy XIV is getting a new expansion called Stormblood, making it the second expansion after Heavensward. Not only Final Fantasy XIV that gets the special highlight, Square Enix also revealed some interesting information about Kingdom Hearts as well. The company revealed a compilation of Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMix and Kingdom Hearts 2.5 Remix, and also a look at Sora’s new drive forms in Kingdom Hearts III.   • Heart and Seoul

Heart and Seoul - Feature

The indie team Sapphire Dragon Productions is launching their new romantic comedy VN Heart and Seoul! The charming yet light-hearted story features various mini games and 6 different endings, and is now available for PC through Steam!

  • Serment – Contract with a Devil

Serment - Contract with a Devil - FeatureSekai Project announced a unique hybrid of visual novel and dungeon-crawling RPG, titled Serment – Contract with a Devil! The game is developed by indie team NKT Studio and planned to release for PC on April 2017.

  • Falsetto Memories

Falsetto Memories - Feature

Chrono Work Studios‘ visual novel Falsetto Memories is getting published by Sekai Project! While not much details has been announced yet, the game will feature beautiful visuals and lots of animations! No release date has been revealed yet.

  • Unlucky Mage

Unlucky Mage - Feature

From loner to savior of a nation, follow the adventure of Jasper in Unlucky Mage! Originally published for mobiles, Nintendo announced that Exe Create‘s magical turn-based RPG is coming to Nintendo 3DS!

  • Accel World Vs Sword Art Online: Millennium Twilight


Bandai Namco announced an epic crossover game titled Accel World Vs Sword Art Online: Millennium Twilight! The game is based on two popular light novels created by Reki Kawahara, and will be available for both PlayStation 4 and PS Vita in 2017.

  • Happy Dungeons

Happy Dungeons - Feature

Have a chaotically fun time in Happy Dungeons! Created by Tokyo-based indie team Toylogic, Happy Dungeons is an action packed coop multiplayer RPG, ready to play on Xbox One.

  • Touhou Genso Wanderer & Touhou Double Focus

Touhou Genso Wanderer & Touhou Double Focus - Physical copy

Publisher NIS America is releasing Touhou Genso Wanderer and Touhou Double Focus on both Playstation 4 and PS Vita! The game will be released in North America on on February 7th, 2017 and in Europe on February 10th, 2017.

  • Queen of Thieves

Queen of Thieves - Feature

Developer Winter Wolves just launched a new hybrid VN Queen of Thieves! The visual novel features elements of RPG alongside a dating-sim, where you can choose to build relationships with 6 different men and women! The game is now available for PC.

  • Yo-kai Watch 3: Sukiyaki

Yo-kai Watch 3 - Sukiyaki - Trailer Screenshot

Level-5 announced that the third version of Yo-kai Watch 3 will be titled Yo-kai Watch 3: Sukiyaki, and it will be released for Nintendo 3DS in Japan, on December 15th, 2016! The game will also have a connection with both the movie and comic adaptions.

  • Star Ocean: Anamnesis

Square Enix announced a new Star Ocean title for iOS and Android, titled Star Ocean: Anamnesis! The new game will feature all past main characters and a new female character and a robot bear called Koro. It will be released later this year.

  • The Alliance Alive


FuRyu just announced a new Nintendo 3DS RPG titled The Alliance Alive! The game is a group performance RPG where there will be 9 interchangeable protagonists to play. It will be released in Japan on Spring 2017.

  • Vulture Capitalist

Vulture Capitalist

Feeling retro? SamorKai Games is developing a Pokémon-esque business game called Vulture Capitalist! Instead of being given a Pokemon, the player will be given a company to grow! The game will be released on both iOS and Android, on 2017.

  • Attack on Titan: Escape from Certain Death

Attack on Titan: Escape from Certain Death - Feature

The development team of Koei Tecmo, Ruby Party, is making a visual novel adaptation of the popular series Attack on Titan! Titled Attack on Titan: Escape from Certain Death, the game will feature an original story with various characters from the main storyline. While no release date has been announced yet, it’s confirmed that the VN will be released for Nintendo 3DS.

  • The Melody of Grisaia

Frontwing just launched the Steam page of its upcoming VN The Melody of Grisaia! As the latest addition of the Grisaia series, it will be the second and last side story of The Labyrinth of Grisaia trilogy. It will be available for PC by the end of 2016.

  • Seventh Rebirth

Seventh Rebirth - Title

After previously teased a new game, GungHo Online Entertainment announced a new mobile game for iOS and Android, titled Seventh Rebirth! The game is a free-to-play fantasy MMORPG with breath-taking visuals and an array of jobs to choose. It is planned to release this Fall in Japan.

  • Hello Charlotte

Hello Charlotte - Feature

Horror lovers? You will love this. Hello Charlotte by indie game maker Etherane is a hybrid VN RPG, where the players will control Charlotte as she adventures through a strangely-humorous, yet deadly world! The game will be released for PC on October 2016, through Steam.

  • Wild Romance

Wild Romance - Feature

VN developer Norn has released a new romance visual novel titled Wild Romance! Follow the adventure of Kazuya as he builds relationships with his former classmates, that turns out to be animal spirits! The game itself is now available for PC through Steam.

  • Legrand Legacy

Game developers from Indonesia, SemiSoft and Tinker Games are currently working on a new JRPG-style game titled Legrand Legacy! The game itself has been in development since 2014, and will be released in early 2017.

  • Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMix

Kingdom Hearts lovers, rejoice! Square Enix has finally announced a compilation game titled Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMix, containing a HD remake of the previous titles! The game will be available for Playstasion 4 on March 9th, 2017 in Japan; March 28th, 2017 in North America; and March 31th, 2017 in Europe.

  • Monster Hunter XX

Capcom Announced Monster Hunter XX

Capcom has announced that they’re releasing an improved version of Monster Hunter Generations, known as Monster Hunter XX! Various details have been revealed through the official website. The game will be available for Nintendo 3DS on March 18th, 2017 in Japan.

  • Final Fantasy Legends II

A new Final Fantasy game for mobile is coming! Square Enix recently launched a new teaser website for its upcoming Android and iOS game Final Fantasy Legends II!

  • Grisaia: Phantom Trigger

Grisaia Phantom Trigger - Feature

Frontwing has announced a new sequel for the Grisaia series! Titled Grisaia: Phantom Trigger, the new game will pick up on the previous game’s story. The visual novel’s first three volumes are currently planned to release in 2017, with the first and second volume to launch as early as Spring 2017.

  • Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue

Square Enix has announced through its Twitter account that Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue is getting a limited edition in the west! Alongside the limited edition, it will also include an exclusive Sora & King Mickey pin!

  • Re: Zero – Death or Kiss

Re: Zero - Death or Kiss - Feature

The VN adaptation of the popular series Re: Zero is getting a limited edition! It will include an original soundtrack and a chibi figurines, depending on the version you buy: chibi Ram figure for the PS4 version, and chibi Rem for the PS Vita version!

Release date revealed!

  • Corpse Party

Corpse Party 3DS version is expected to release on October 25th, 2016. The game is localized to English with more contents! Check here to read the full detail and terrifying screenshots!

  • Criminal Girls: Invite Only

  • Four Goddesses Online: Cyber Dimension Neptune

  • Disgaea 2

Disgaea 2 PC Version - disgaea 2

Disgaea 2 for PC is due to launch at Steam on January next year. This version includes contents from previous consoles which are previously not released in the west. Click here to check the key feature and what’s new in the PC version.

  • Gurumin 3D

Gurumin 3D: A Monstrous Adventure will be released on October 13 for North American Nintendo 3DS eShop. Additionally, players will also get a free 3DS theme titled ‘Gurumin Party Time Theme‘ that will be available from October 13 through October 31.

  • Harvest Moon: Skytree Village

  • Mobius Final Fantasy

Japanese PC version of Mobius Final Fantasy will launch on November 1st, through Steam. Apparently the mobile version can be synchronized with the PC version. Check the beautiful screenshots of the game here!

  • Root Letter

PQube just revealed the western release date for its upcoming mystery visual novel, √Letter (Root Letter) which will release in North America on November 1st, and in Europe on October 28th. Check here to read more about the game and watch the trailer.

  • Steins;Gate 0

  • Tales of Berseria

Tales of Berseria gets English Release Date

Tales of Berseria will launch on January 24th and January 27th in North America and Europe respectively. The game also comes with limited collector edition when pre-ordering the game. Interestingly, the limited edition between version is different, which can be read here.

  • The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2

Nippon Ichi Software‘s The Witch and The Hundred Knight 2 Japanese release date is announced for February 23rd next year. They release the game with the standard edition, digital versions, and precious first-print limited edition for 11,016 yen.   • Trillion: God of Destruction

Trillion: God of Destruction will launch on PC via Steam on this October 25th. You will get a 40% off week long launch discount!   • Twin Star Exorcist

The game adaptation of anime Twin Star Exorcist will release on January 26, 2017 in Japan. In addition, special bonus for first-print copies of the game will be available.

  • Tyranny

Obsidian Entertainment‘s Tyranny is set to release on November 10th! The game will be available for pre-order in three versions.

  • Xanadu Next

Xanadu Next Feature

XSEED Games will release Xanadu Next on November 3rd this year. A 10% discount for a week after its launch is available. Furthermore, the game also has official website which can be checked here!


  • Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney

Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney - Feature

Originally released on Nintendo DS, Apollo Justice will be ported to both iOS and Android! The game will improve user interface and graphics for this version. They also support both English and Japanese language!

  • Asdivine Heart

Kemco‘s Asdivine Hearts gets PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita release. We can also cross-buy across three platform for the game!

  • Danganronpa 1&2 Reload

Danganronpa 1&2 - Feature

Spike Chunsoft decided to release the PlayStation 4 version of both Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc and Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair! It will be packaged into one title called Danganronpa 1&2 Reload. The game will also have limited edition purchase which can be checked here.

  • Mobius Final Fantasy

After being a mobile exclusive game, Square Enix just announced that Mobius Final Fantasy PC version will be made available for the Japanese version. The PC version will be released via Steam. You can pre-register on the game’s official website.

Delayed release date

  • Trillion: God of Destruction

Trillion: God of Destruction ss12

Trillion: God of Destruction PC release date is delayed for two weeks. It is supposed to be out on October 25th, but Compile Heart decided to change it to November 7th. You can get the game via Steam with 40% discount. Check here for more details.

English localization

  • Atelier Shallie Plus: Alchemist of the Dusk Sea


Atelier Shallie Plus: Alchemist of the Dusk Sea will get an English release! It also gets specific date which is on January 17th, 2017 in North America and January 20th, 2017 in Europe for PS Vita. Furthermore, it has both Japanese and English voices!

  • Mercenaries Saga 3


Right after Mercenaries Saga 3 announced to be released at early October, it also gets English localization! Circle Entertainment didn’t give a specific date of release yet, but it is certainly going to happen.

  • Sword Art Online: Memory Defrag

Bandai Namco is going to localize Sword Art Online: Memory Defrag for western players! In addition, the game is already available in Japan for PS Vita and Playstation 4 just recently in August this year. Visit here for further details.



RPG updates

  • Persona 5

Persona 5 - English voice cast revealed

After only two weeks of Persona 5‘s release in Japan, 550,000 copies of the game were shipped out, which is amazing. Atlus released some DLCs ahead of the schedule for free to celebrate this. Additionally, the company also celebrates the series’ 20th anniversary by releasing more DLCs. The company also revealed the English voice casts of Persona 5.

  • World of Final Fantasy

World of Final Fantasy English Demo

Before the game’s released, Square Enix revealed a bunch of screenshots of World of Final Fantasy showing well-known characters like Tifa, Rydia, Snow, and many more. The company also showed a side-by-side comparison video on how the game runs on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. A trailer showing the game’s story overview was also released. Now that Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue‘s release date is getting closer and closer, Square Enix will be adding Sora as a playable character into the game as a free DLC.

  • Final Fantasy XV

Earlier in October, Square Enix launched a countdown website for Final Fantasy XV featuring Moogles. It was teased that moogles will act as a “lucky charm” that can help Noctis in dire situations. Later in October, it was revealed that the moogle doll acts as a decoyFinal Fantasy XV also had a stage presentation at Paris Games Week 2016, and director Hajime Tabata had confirmed that the game has finally gone gold. Additionally, in an interview with JeuxVideo, producer Haruyoshi Sawatari mentioned that the idea of making Luna or other heroines as a playable character will be put into consideration.

  • Monster Hunter Stories

In one of the videos of Monster Hunter Stories, Capcom detailed the game’s battle system and equipments. According to the video, the game has a rock-paper-scissor battle system.

  • Kingdom Hearts III & Final Fantasy VII Remake

One of October’s issue of Dengeki PlayStation features an interview with Tetsuya Nomura from Square Enix. He talked about Final Fantasy VII Remake and Kingdom Hearts III.

  • Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue

In the same interview with Tetsuya Nomura, he confirmed that Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue will get 4K support on PlayStation 4 Pro. Later in October, Square Enix also revealed the opening cinematic of the game, and it looks gorgeous.

  • Kingdom Hearts III

As mentioned above, the series’ director Tetsuya Nomura shared more information on Kingdom Hearts III in an interview. The company later teased two new drive forms that will be made available in the game through its official Twitter account.

  • Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization

Bandai Namco released a trailer for Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization, showing the gameplay and the battle system and revealed a surprise playable character at the end of the trailer. The company also revealed a bunch of new screenshots and artworks of the game.

  • Nights of Azure 2: Bride of the New Moon

Gust updated the official website of Nights of Azure 2: Bride of the New Moon with some details on the battle features. The company also revealed the very first gameplay trailer for the game.

  • Final Fantasy XIV

Square Enix finally announced Final Fantasy XIV‘s new expansion at Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2016 in Las Vegas. The expansion is called Stormblood, and it was announced along with a teaser trailer and some first details.

  • Vampyr

  • The Alliance Alive


FuRyu released the debut trailer for its latest RPG for Nintendo 3DS titled The Alliance Alive. The company also revealed the game’s story and key features in an issue of Famitsu.

  • Star Ocean: Anamnesis

In an issue of Famitsu, Square Enix revealed new details and the playable characters on the newly-announced Star Ocean: Anamnesis. The company later revealed the game’s first trailer as well as some screenshots.

  • Demon Gaze 2

Kadokawa Games released new details and a new trailer for Demon Gaze 2 showing the content update called “Call of the Grimodar“.

  • Atelier Firis: Alchemist of the Mysterious Journey

Koei Tecmo and Gust released a bunch of new trailers for the upcoming Atelier Firis: Alchemist of the Mysterious Journey. They shows the game’s world, battle system, boss battle, and many more. Gust also introduced some of the new characters that will appear in the game through screenshots.

  • The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2

The Witch and The Hundred Knight Feature

Nippon Ichi Software announced that The Witch and the Hundred Knights 2 will be released for PlayStation 4 in Japan in Winter 2017. The company later released some screenshots of the game and gave a closer detail on the story.

  • Valkyria: Azure Revolution

SEGA released two trailers for Valkyria: Azure Revolution showing the game’s story and gameplay. Not only that, SEGA also released some new screenshots and some new details about the game.

  • Lost Soul Aside

Developer Yang Bing finally updated us all with the progression of the one-man show indie RPG Lost Soul Aside. He revealed that he is receiving support from Sony, which makes the game to be a timed exclusive title to PlayStation 4.

  • God Wars: Future Past

NIS America released a debut trailer for the latest tactical RPG God Wars: Future Past. The release of the trailer came along with some screenshots as well. Check out the full article here.

  • New Danganronpa V3: Everyone’s New Semester of Murder

Spike Chunsoft revealed the voice casts of New Danganronpa V3: Everyone’s New Semester of Murder in an issue of Famitsu. Additionally, the company later revealed a gameplay trailer and also shared more details on the game’s features, such as Lie Bullet, Panic Debate, etc.

  • Corpse Party

One of XSEED Games hit title Corpse Party is finally available for Nintendo 3DS. To celebrate the release, the company released a launch trailer of the game. Check it out here!

  • Idol Death Game TV

D3 Publisher released yet another trailer for Idol Death Game TV. The new trailer briefly introduces the idols, gameplay mechanic, and also the death scenes. Click here to find out more!

  • √Letter (Root Letter)


Mystery Visual Novel √Letter (Root Letter) gets new information on the characters. D3 Publisher revealed an artwork and a brief introduction to the 8 main characters of the game.




  • Pokémon Sun and Moon

Pokemon Sun and Moon - Z-Rings and Z-Crystals look

Now we finally get to see how Pokémon Sun and Moon‘s Z-Rings and Z-Crystals looks! The Z-Rings is a bracelet which are able to light up, make sounds, and vibrate. Read more about this here.

  • Pokémon-Mario Crossover

Pikachu & Mario

Cute merchandise of Pokémon featuring Mario is going to be available in JapanYou can get adorable looking Pikachu dressed as Mario and Luigi! Check here if you’re interested.


  • Digimon Adventure Tri

Digimon Adventure Tri gets an update about new visual poster for Part 4! This part called ‘Shousitsu’ (Loss) and will come to Japanese theaters on February 25th, 2017.



  • Pokémon GO

Fun factMaroon 5′s latest song, “Don’t Wanna Know” is actually inspired by Pokémon GO! They got the idea to make the song because of how phenomenal Pokémon GO when it is first released.
