Capcom has released another trailer for Monster Hunter Stories. After giving more details on how to get monster eggs and raising the monsters, this time is about the battle system, and the equipments of the game.
Take a look at the trailer below before we continue.
Just like in general RPG, the battle starts when you bump into a monster with an encounter symbol above its head. The player and the Otomon will get their turns to attack.
The attacks are divided into three categories: Power, Speed, and Technique. The system also applies to monsters. Technique beats Speed, Speed beats Power, and Power beats Technique, so it’s basically rock-paper-scissor. The winner of this rock-paper-scissor system gets to deal more damage. Fortunately, you will get to see each monster’s attack characteristics, which is advantageous to you.
There are 4 kinds of weapon that are available in the game: Great Swords, One-handed Swords, Hammers, and Hunting Horns. These weapons have their own unique skills. You can also strengthen your attacks by equipping weapons that come with skills, such as fire attribute weapons that can add more damage to the attack.
Also, the game features familiar items from the Monster Hunter franchise, such as Whetstone which increases affinity instead of sharpness, or Pitfall Traps to pin down monsters.
