Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2016 in Tokyo has just begun! The event started with an opening keynote, hosted by producer and director Naoki Yoshida. He shared new information about the next expansion, Stormblood.
NEW JOB: RED MAGE
He started off the keynote with revealing a new job: Red Mage. Yoshida teased about this as he wore a Scarlet Witch T-shirt at the previous Fan Festival in Las Vegas.
Red Mage is a melee-ranged hybrid DPS that uses a rapier and a magicked crystal medium as a weapon. The job has the capability of dealing massive damage by chaining multiple spells and then following up with melee attacks. Therefore, it requires high-speed positioning to optimize the potential.
NEW FEATURE: SWIMMING & DIVING
Players will be able to swim and even dive in certain areas. Upon entering accessible body of water, your character will automatically switch to swim mode. Similar to flying, swimming is only used for exploration, so there won’t be such thing as underwater combat.
NEW BEAST TRIBE: THE ANANTA
A new beast tribe called the Ananta will be introduced in Stormblood. This serpent-like race resides on the mountains near Ala Mhigo and excels in spell- and gemcraft.
NEW PRIMAL: LAKSHMI
A new primal was introduced in the keynote, namely Lakshmi, the Lady of Bliss. She is the primal worshiped by the Ananta.
NEW 8-MAN RAID: OMEGA
With Bahamut in 2.x, and Alexander in 3.x, the 8-man raid that will be made available in Stormblood is called The Bend of Time – Omega.
NEW 24-MAN RAID: RETURN TO IVALICE
Yes, you read it right. Ivalice will be coming to Eorzea, titled “Return to Ivalice”.
RELEASE DATE: JUNE 20, 2017
The keynote concluded with Square Enix CEO Yosuke Matsuda coming onto the stage, announced that the expansion will release on June 20, 2017 (tentative). The expansion will be available for pre-order on January 24, 2017.
