Previously Square Enix announced at their 30th anniversary that there will be a new manga within the Final Fantasy Universe called Final Fantasy: Lost Stranger. It was announced at the end of January, and a few months later—this month—the first chapter is finally out! You can definitely read it at Crunchyroll. It’s free. At least for the first chapter, it’s free.
Here’s the plot summary. At first you will think “wait, is this the mangaka real life story?” but it is not!
Scoring a job at Square Enix, Sasaki Shogo‘s dream of producing a Final Fantasy game finally seems within his grasp! But after he starts, he quickly discovers that the work has nothing to do with his favorite franchise at all… Disillusioned, his enthusiasm for FF begins waning despite his sister / co-worker Yuko‘s attempts to lift his spirits. Their conversation is cut short, though, when a runaway truck suddenly careens toward the two of them…! When Shogo comes to, the first thing he sees is… a Moogle?! Wait, was that a Cure spell? And chocobos…?! Hurled into a Final Fantasy world unbound to any particular installment, how will an uber-fan like Shogo survive?
Players of Final Fantasy MMORPG, Final Fantasy XIV will definitely recognize the world of Final Fantasy: Lost Stranger, for it to be happened in the world of Final Fantasy XIV complete with the races: Elezen, Hyur, Lalafell, Miqo’te, Roegadyn, and Au Ra; even though they go by other name. Apparently, the protagonist also Final Fantasy XIV’s player; a complete fan; an addicted one—you named it—and he ends up in a world of his favourite game. Definitely one of a gamer’s dream comes true that only happens in movie, manga, or game. In other words, fantasy.
The manga sounds promising with that kind of plot summary. Just have a look at the first chapter!
