Following the release date announcement, it is revealed that Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters will have different concept from main Digimon series. The announcement is based on September issue of Animedia‘s interview and covered by Bokutachi no Digital World.
Digimon Universe: Appli Monster takes place in a more modern world in which the usage of smartphone apps is popular. Thus, they make the concept based on it. Furthermore, the main character will also look different from the main Digimon series usually have which is hot-headed and sporty protagonist. Haru, the main character, is the opposite of Taichi, the main character of Digimon Adventure. Haru isn’t hot headed, he likes to read, has good grades, and likes to look for solutions during battles instead. Therefore, his buddy app is Gatchamon, an appmon originated from a search app.
The level system also has different names from previous generations. They are Standard, Super, Ultimate, and God. The grade contains four levels which upgrade is through fusing with other appmon.
