PlayStation 4 is a home video game console and a successor of PlayStation 3 that was released initially in 2013 in Japan. As a modern gaming console, it competes with Xbox One, Wii U, and Switch. PlayStation 4 was known to have a lot of wonderful RPG since its release until today, even with the newly released PlayStation 5. So here are the top 7 offline PlayStation 4 RPG you should find.

7. Divinity: Original Sin II – Definitive Edition

Divinity: Original Sin II is a RPG developed and published by Larian Studios as the sequel to 2014’s Divinity: Original Sin. The game was released for Microsoft Windows in 2017, for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2018, for macOS in early 2019, and for Nintendo Switch in the same year. An improved version titled Divinity: Original Sin II – Definitive Edition was made, making thousand of changes from the original game.

The game is set on the fantasy world of Rivellon, centuries after Divinity: Original Sin. Living beings on Rivellon have a form of energy known as Source, and individuals called Sourcerers can manipulate Source to cast spells or enhance their combat abilities. At the start of the game, the player character, a Sourcerer, is captured by the Divine Order and sent to an island prison known as Fort Joy until a gigantic Kraken Voidwoken attacks the ship.

6. Horizon Zero Dawn

Horizon Zero Dawn is an action RPG developed by Guerrilla Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment in 2017 for PlayStation 4. The plot follows Aloy, a hunter in a world overrun by machines who sets out to uncover her past. The playtime record in howlongtobeat.com is 135 hours, taken from the polling of 200.000 players. Included with Frozen Wilds DLC, it takes over 200 hours to complete the game.

5. Monster Hunter World: Iceborne

Monster Hunter: World is an action RPG developed and published by Capcom for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. For your information, Monster Hunter: World is the sixth-best-selling PlayStation 4 game, so we can imagine how large the fanbase is. Originally to hunt and slay monsters in the game, the developer collaborated with Square Enix to bring some Final Fantasy creatures in the adventure.

Iceborne expansion for Monster Hunter: World is a fully-fledged paid expansion that was released in 2019 on consoles, and in 2020 on PC. The Iceborne expansion builds on every aspect of Monster Hunter: World, starting with an all-new story that picks up after the main game and whisks hunters away to a newly discovered chilly locale called Hoarfrost Reach.

4. Bloodborne

Bloodborne is an action RPG developed by FromSoftware and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 4. The game was released worldwide in 2015. Bloodborne is played from a third-person perspective and the gameplay is focused on the strategic weapons-based combat and exploration.

Bloodborne follows the player’s character, a Hunter, through the decrepit Gothic, Victorian era-inspired city of Yharnam, whose inhabitants are afflicted with a blood-borne disease. Attempting to find the source of the plague, the player’s character unravels the city’s mysteries while fighting beasts and cosmic beings.

3. Final Fantasy VII Remake

Final Fantasy VII Remake is an action RPG developed and published by Square Enix. The game released in April 10, and exclusive for PlayStation 4. It is actually the first in a planned series of games remaking the 1997 PlayStation game Final Fantasy VII. Final Fantasy VII Remake has become one of the fastest-selling PlayStation 4 games, selling over 3.5 million copies within the first three days.

Set in the dystopian cyberpunk of Midgar, players will control Cloud Strife, the exact same person as in the original Final Fantasy VII who worked together with the eco-terrorist group known as AVALANCHE and tries to stop the Shinra from using the Planet’s life essence.

2. Persona 5 Royal

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 5 is the sixth installment of the Persona series. This game was developed by Atlus (P-Studio) for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. It was released in Japan first in 2016, and worldwide in 2017. An enhanced version titled Persona 5 Royal (Persona 5: The Royal in Japan) was re-released in 2019 exclusive for the PlayStation 4.

This game basically revolves around troubled high school students which consist of the main protagonist and his compatriots. These teenagers realized that they are living in a corrupted and dangerous world, so in order to seek freedom and justice they formed a group called Phantom Thieves of Hearts. With the assistance of Personas, they try to change the adults by entering their hearts.

1. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is an action RPG developed and published by CD Projekt in 2015, based on The Witcher novels. In this third game of the series the developer totally making a revolution upon its world. We can find tons of quests from village, wood, and town areas. With all of its expansion packs and DLC, it is said that there is a gamer who able to complete the game in about 1800 hours.

Just like its two predecessors, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt played in an open world with a third-person perspective. We will control the main protagonist, Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter (or also known as witcher) who is looking for his missing adopted daughter on the run from the Wild Hunt, an otherworldly force determined to capture her and use her powers. Our main objective will be to save her.

Personally, I think that PlayStation 4 is the only console that can fulfill my RPG gaming need. So far, I think this console has the most promising RPG titles, and the games above already proved that. Speaking about a favorite, I would go with Persona 5 Royal for its stunning overall quality and Final Fantasy VII Remake as the most successful remake from a legendary RPG on PlayStation console.
