Games have existed since long time ago. Some are failed to continue its legacy, but some others are successfully exist up until this moment. The legendary classic games have more values as the core of the development, so developers decided to reboot them. In this list, are the top 5 game reboots of the last decade; some are real RPG while some others are games using RPG elements (along with the Metascore).
5. Tomb Raider (Score: 85)
Tomb Raider is a 2013 action-adventure game developed by Crystal Dynamics and published by Square Enix’s European subsidiary. The game is the tenth title in the Tomb Raider franchise, and operates as a reboot that reconstructs the origin of Lara Croft. Tomb Raider was first released on March 2013 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Microsoft Windows.
Tomb Raider is set on Yamatai, an island from which Lara, who is untested and not yet the battle-hardened explorer she is in other titles in the series, must save her friends and escape while being hunted down by a malevolent cult. Gameplay elements focus more on survival, although exploration is used within the game when exploring the island and various optional tombs.
4. Assassin’s Creed: Origins (Score: 85)
Assassin’s Creed: Origins is a 2017 action-adventure game developed and published by Ubisoft. The game is the tenth major installment in the Assassin’s Creed series and the successor to 2015’s Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. Featuring a large open world, Origins adopted elements from role-playing video games and incorporated an overhauled hitbox-based combat system.
Set in Ancient Egypt near the end of the Ptolemaic period (49–43 BC), the story follows a Medjay named Bayek of Siwa and his wife Aya, and explores the origins of the centuries-long conflict between the Hidden Ones who fight for peace by promoting liberty, and The Order of the Ancients who desire peace through the forced imposition of order.
3. Divinity: Original Sin (Score: 87)
Divinity: Original Sin is a fantasy RPG developed by Larian Studios. Upon its release in 2014, the game received acclaim from critics, with many praising its ability to modernize the RPG genre. An enhanced edition of the game, featuring voice acting and various other updates, was released in October 2020. A sequel to the game, titled Divinity: Original Sin II was released in September 2017.
The protagonists of the game are a pair of “Source Hunters”, members of an organization dedicated to eradicating a dangerous type of magic known as Source. At the start of the game the Source Hunters receive orders to investigate the murder of a town councilor by a suspected Sourcerer in Cyseal. Upon arrival they find Cyseal under siege by orcs and undead as orchestrated by a Sourcerer conspiracy.
2. XCOM: Enemy Unknown (Score: 89)
XCOM: Enemy Unknown is a 2012 turn-based tactical video game developed by Firaxis Games and published by 2K Games. The game is the “reimagined” remake of the 1994 cult classic strategy game UFO: Enemy Unknown (also known as X-COM: UFO Defense) and a reboot of MicroProse’s 1990 X-COM series.
Set in an alternative version of the year 2015, the player controls an elite multinational paramilitary organization called XCOM during an alien invasion of Earth. The player commands troops in the field in a series of turn-based tactical missions; between missions, the player directs the research and development of technologies from recovered alien technology and captured prisoners.
1. Deus Ex: Human Revolution (Score: 90)
Deus Ex: Human Revolution is an action RPG developed by Eidos Montreal and published by Square Enix’s European subsidiary in 2011 for Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. The game is the third game in the Deus Ex series, and a prequel to the original Deus Ex (2000). A director’s cut, featuring further improvements and additional content was released in 2013 for the original platforms and Wii U.
Set in the year 2027, players control Adam Jensen, a security officer for Sarif Industries, which develops controversial artificial organs dubbed “augmentations”. After an attack on Sarif, Jensen undergoes extensive augmentation and investigates the shadowy organization behind the attack. The story explores themes of transhumanism and the growing power of megacorporations and their impact on social class.

Those games above are proof of “old but gold”, although the original games have been released so many years ago the quality of each game is still good enough to be released again in the present day. That is also why, after being rebooted with improved graphics those game got warm reception from fans. I personally like Tomb Raider; it is an example of how a game should be rebooted without ruining its history.
