Tales of Symphonia is a Japanese RPG released for Nintendo GameCube on August 29, 2003 in Japan. Published by Namco, this game has become the core product of the Tales series and the fifth main game of the series (eleventh game released in total). Because of the positive response from the audience, the developer decided to port it for PlayStation 2 at first and later also for PlayStation 3 and PC.
Tales of Symphonia follows the adventures of Lloyd Irving as he and his friends work to help Colette Brunel regenerate the world. If before we have discussed about the male characters, we shouldn’t forget that there are the dependable female characters too that aren’t weaker than the male characters. Here are the female Tales of Symphonia characters that you should know.
1. Colette Brunel
Colette is the female lead in Tales of Symphonia and the seventh successful the Chosen One. As the Chosen One, she is being destinied to regenerate the world by ascending the Tower of Salvation as an angel, thereby saving her world Sylvarant. She met Lloyd at the Iselia schoolhouse, and become friends as soon as they know each other. Sometime later, Genis joined in their circle of friendship.
Colette uses two rings in battle, sometimes called chakrams, which she throws at the enemy. She isn’t a powerful fighter to begin with, but as soon as she has access to light-based magic called Angel Skills (consists of Angel Feathers, Holy Song, Sacrifice, Judgment, and Grand Cross) she becomes a valuable asset for the team. With high attack power statistic, she excels in defeating larger enemies as well as groups of monsters.
2. Raine Sage
Raine is another protagonist in Tales of Symphonia, and an older sister of Genis. In the game, she is also known as the school teacher of the village of Iselia. Her knowledge is even greater than that of Genis she is often seen correcting the members of the party whenever they misbehave, sometimes with a kick or slap. Above all, she hates not being able to save people’s lives, and will do anything to change that.
Raine wields staves in battle and specializes in healing and supportive magic, with limited offensive abilities. She has a high elemental defense and TP pool due to her high intelligence. When she joins the party at first, she only knows the basic healing ability: First Aid, but as she levels up, her healing spells grow progressively more powerful. With her role, she becomes the central healer for the party.
3. Sheena Fujibayashi
Sheena is one of the playable characters in Tales of Symphonia. She is a skilled ninja from Mizuho who is sent to assassinate Colette Brunel. She meets Lloyd (the main protagonist) and the party at Ossa Trail, and fights them at first. In the end she decides to join the party after they help her during the event in Luin. She is always accompanied by Corrine, a fox-like summon spirit and Sheena’s best friend.
Sheena uses cards as her weapon. She is a decent melee fighter and summoner. She can call upon Summon Spirits to aid the party in battle. She can only summons in Over Limit (powered-up mode) with the exception of Corrine, and once she begins the incantation the summoned spirit will appear and deals massive damage to all enemies in range as well as giving support stats to party members.
4. Presea Combatir
Presea is one of the playable characters in Tales of Symphonia who is also a woodcutter from the small town of Ozette in Tethe’alla. The party first meets Presea in Meltokio, where they use her to get themselves in the castle. If, by the end of the game Lloyd has the highest affection with Presea, she goes off with Lloyd in search of the remaining Exspheres.
Despite her cute appearance, Presea is a highly effective close-ranged fighter. She is able to deal and receive the most damage of all the playable characters in the game. Her disadvantage is that she is the slowest member of the party, causing her to be more vulnerable when it comes to taking hits. However, she makes up for this flaw by having a high defense.
Not only the male characters, Tales of Symphonia seems to have a dependable squad of female fighter. From spellcaster to melee fighter, these female characters will never be a damsel in distress like a woman used to be in a game. My favorite is Sheena Fujibayashi, because I love ninja characters so much as well as melee fighter who uses knuckles or short-ranged weapon.
