Graphics and gameplay often become a reason why people choose to play a game title. Usually people will consider games with good rating and good storyline to be played and stick with it until the end. For me, games with good storyline and good ending have more value in my mind. Those factors differ between every player, but it determines the popularity of the game itself.

As an RPG lover I will remember RPG games with good gameplay, strong character’s personality, and good ending easier. Here are 7 turn-based RPG games with amazing story and good ending that is worth to try for RPG lovers.

7. Lunar 2: Eternal Blue

Lunar 2: Eternal Blue is the sequel of the famous PSX RPG called Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete. The story takes place about one thousand years after the events in Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete. Lunar is once again endangered; this time is because of the Evil God Zophar. This makes the two main protagonists: Hiro and Lucia, and their companion to work together as a team to save the world from destruction.

This game has a unique ending which everybody called the epilogue or true ending. The epilogue continues the game from the original ending and will lead to the true ending. There are also some dungeons to be completed before we can watch the true ending. For most people who have played this game, they always said that the true ending is one of the best.

6. Grandia

Although Grandia was not the greatest selling game, people must admit that it has a genuine turn-based battle system. For some people (including me), they play this game because of its attractive battle and skills tree system. A true RPG player will always know about how good this game is. Even the turn-based battle was the one being used in other games later on.

The story centers around a young man called Justin who always dreamed about being an adventurer, like his father. The Spirit Stone that his father has given to him turns out to be the key to lead him and his companion in saving the world. Together with his friends, they embark on a journey to discover the secret of the Spirit Stone.

5. The Last Remnant

This game has a unique turn based battle which will be played as a team/union. Unlike most RPG where the party consists of less than 10 people, in this game players can mobilize a team with more than 10 characters. Rush Sykes, the main protagonist will try to save his sister Irina with the help of his multi-racial teammates.

By using ancient weapon and accessories called Remnant, Rush will try to stop The Conqueror with his formidable armies. Like any other villain boss, The Conqueror will try to conquer the world under his command. But this time, Rush must battle with The Conqueror’s generals who also uses Remnant weapons.

4. Final Fantasy VIII

Who doesn’t know this legendary franchise from Square Enix? Most people will surely admit Final Fantasy VIII as one of the unforgettable Square Enix RPG title. The romanticism of the two main protagonists: Squall Leonhart and Rinoa Heartilly don’t reduce the excitement of playing this game for every person.

The mixture of modern technology era and the life of a student seasoned with romance have made this game become one of turn-based RPG games that you must try before you die. Even some people didn’t mind to play this game over and over just to enjoy the excellent mix of: turn-based battle, great gameplay, nice FMVs, and romance.

3. Final Fantasy IV

One of the best of Final Fantasy title is enough reason for this title to have a re-port on PC. We will play as one of the knight of Baron who serves under the king. Unlike most main characters of RPG games that begin as a good guy, this game will give players different experiences as we begin as a “bad guy”.

Cecil, the main protagonists is a Dark Knight. Yes, we will start the game unusually as a bad guy, but there will be surprises as the story goes on. The class change feature also becomes one of the selling points in this game as it affects the storyline. This game is still using the classic turn-based Final Fantasy style battle that will bring nostalgic feelings to Final Fantasy lovers.

2. Chrono Trigger

One of the legendary RPG title ever would be Chrono Trigger. The great time-travel plot, amazing battle system, skill combining attacks, and unique characters makes Chrono Trigger always on top among the other classic console RPG (you can find a next-gen game with similarities: I Am Setsuna). In this game, we will play as Crono, a young man who is also good at sword skills along with his unique companions.

A princess, a frog swordsman, a prehistoric blonde girl, and a robot will be your party members as you progress through the story. This game also has multiple endings which require some conditions to be triggered. And of course, there will be the best ending available if you can fulfill the condition to achieve it.

1. Suikoden 2

Suikoden series is a superior classic RPG which is also considered legend in the classic console. Starts well with the first Suikoden title, the sequel apparently results even better in most elements. The battle system isn’t as simple as before.  There are three types of battles in the game: regular battles, duels, and massive battles. The massive battle will make players thinks harder on how to keep everybody alive.

This time we will play as the main protagonist of the game (we can decide the name by our self) who starts as a youth brigade. As the story goes on, we can collect up to 108 characters that will help us in many ways. This game also has the best ending that can be triggered after fulfilling some conditions.
