When I play RPG, plot and battle mechanics are the ones which caught my attention the most. But in reality, the beauty of RPG does not stop as to those elements only. Me personally, and maybe many players also think that a good RPG is the one which can provide us a wide customization options. So if you think we have the same taste, then these 7 RPG with the best customization options were made for you.

1. Black Desert Online (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC)

Black Desert Online is a sandbox-oriented fantasy MMORPG developed by Korean company Pearl Abyss and originally published for PC in 2015. In 2018 it was re-released and known as Black Desert Remastered with improved graphics quality. There are also the mobile version known as Black Desert Mobile (2019) and PlayStation 4 and Xbox One version known simply as Black Desert (2019).

Black Desert Online takes place in a high fantasy setting and revolves around the conflict between the two rival nations, the Republic of Calpheon and the Kingdom of Valencia. In this game, you can grind for level as much as you like through action based combat and doing sidequests to get interesting rewards such as weapons and armors in a world with beautiful environment.

2. Dragon Age: Inquisition (PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC)

Dragon Age: Inquisition is an action RPG developed by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts. The game is the third major game in the Dragon Age franchise, act as the sequel to Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II. The game was released worldwide in November 2014 for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows.

The story of Dragon Age: Inquisition follows a player character known as the Inquisitor on a journey to settle the civil unrest in the continent of Thedas and close a mysterious tear in the sky called the “Breach”, which is unleashing dangerous demons upon the world. The Inquisitor is viewed by some as the ‘chosen one’, as they have a ‘Mark’ on their hand capable of closing the Breach.

3. White Knight Chronicles (PlayStation 3)

White Knight Chronicles is a fantasy RPG developed by Level-5 and SCE Japan Studio and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 3. The game was Level-5’s first project for the system and has sold 350,000 copies in Japan by August 8, 2009. A sequel titled White Knight Chronicles II was released in 2010 and a related game for the PlayStation Portable, titled White Knight Chronicles: Origins was released in 2011.

The story begins in the kingdom of Balandor, where princess Cisna is having a coming-of-age banquet. After delivering wine for the party, Leonard, the main protagonist and his childhood friend Yulie are ended up fighting with an evil organization called the Magi. Upon escaping with the princess, Leonard accidentally finds a giant suit or armor and a gauntlet which he uses to fight the Magi.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an action RPG developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks in 2011. This game is known for the fourth-best selling Xbox 360 games. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim offers you a huge world with endless exploring into islands, caves, castles, and many more. With all DLC and mods, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim can be completed over 1000 hours.

The main story revolves around the protagonist, the Dragonborn, on a quest to defeat Alduin the World-Eater, a dragon who is prophesied to destroy the world. The game is set 200 years after the events of Oblivion, and takes place in Skyrim, the northernmost province of Tamriel. Throughout the game, we will complete quests and develops our character in an open world with the choice to ignore or postpone the main storyline.

5. Bloodborne (PlayStation 4)

Bloodborne is an action RPG developed by FromSoftware and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 4. The game was released worldwide in 2015. Bloodborne is played from a third-person perspective and the gameplay is focused on the strategic weapons-based combat and exploration.

Bloodborne follows the player’s character, a Hunter, through the decrepit Gothic, Victorian era-inspired city of Yharnam, whose inhabitants are afflicted with a blood-borne disease. Attempting to find the source of the plague, the player’s character unravels the city’s mysteries while fighting beasts and cosmic beings.

6. Monster Hunter: World (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC)

Monster Hunter: World is an action RPG developed and published by Capcom for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. For your information, Monster Hunter: World is the sixth-best-selling PlayStation 4 game, so we can imagine how large the fanbase is. Originally to hunt and slay monsters in the game, the developer collaborated with Square Enix to bring some Final Fantasy creatures in the adventure.

In the game, the player takes the role of a Hunter, tasked to hunt down and either kill or trap monsters that roams in one of several environmental spaces. There will be reward for the player upon successfully doing that through loot consisting of parts from the monsters and other elements that are used to craft weapons and armors amongst other equipment.

7. Final Fantasy XIV (PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC)

Final Fantasy XIV is a MMORPG developed and published by Square Enix in 2010. Using the same name with the main franchise, Final Fantasy XIV offers a similar gameplay and elements of the Final Fantasy series. Before it was only available on PC, but now you can also play it on PlayStation 4. This game is a breath of fresh air for both Final Fantasy series’ lover and newcomers.

Aside from its status as an online game, Final Fantasy XIV is fully equipped with stunning visuals and amazing soundtrack, as what the developer best known for along with a good storyline to follow. Final Fantasy XIV is free to be played until level 35, and after that you must pay for the subscription fee to be able to continue. There are six races of characters and seven classes available for you to choose.

Even though I pay attention the most to plot and battle mechanics, I always think that playing a RPG that provides wide variety of customization is always a plus. With customization options, the game will be much more fun than before. Speaking about a favorite, I will go with White Knight Chronicles. I’m into JRPG a lot and the battle mechanics is also nice which reminds me of the classic Japanese RPG.
