Ported games are somehow becomes so valuable to a fan of certain game. Because they have played it long time ago, mesmerized with the gameplay and the story, later they want to play it once more. The bad thing is, if they played it in a classic console, they have to find the emulator for that console. 1. Final Fantasy IX (Android, iOS)
Final Fantasy IX is the ninth main installment in Final Fantasy series which was developed and published by Squaresoft. It was initially released in July 2000 for PlayStation, and later re-released in 2016 for iOS, Android and Microsoft Windows via Steam, and the last re-released in 2017 for PlayStation 4.
The story follows Zidane and his companion of Tantalus Theatre Troupe kidnapping Princess Garnet of Alexandria whom coincidentally planned to escape the castle. Accompanied by her personal guard Steiner, they become comrades and travel together with Zidane to know the secrets of the Crystal and try to stop the malevolent force who intends to destroy their world.

Romancing SaGa 2 is the fifth title in the SaGa series, and was released originally in 1993 for SNES. The game was developed by Square, who was known for the famous Final Fantasy series back then. In 2010, the SNES version of this game was released for Wii, and then in 2014 it was released for Wii U. In 2017 the game was also released for 3DS, but before that it was released for Android and iOS in 2016.
The Emperor or Empress of Avalon begins the game as King Leon and later plays as his various heirs down through the game years. Leon hands his kingdom over to his son, Gerard. At the end of Gerard’s reign, the player is able to choose his or her own successor and pass on Gerard’s abilities to them. At the end of each generation, he or she will be given a choice of four heirs.
3. Adventures of Mana (Android, iOS)
Adventures of Mana is an action-RPG developed and published by Square Enix. It is actually a 3D remake of the classic Game Boy game Final Fantasy Adventure (1991), the first game of the Mana series. It was released worldwide for Android and iOS in 2016, and later for PlayStation Vita in the same year.
The player takes the role of a young hero named Sumo along with a heroine known as Fuji who tries to stop the Dark Lord of Glaive from destroying the Tree of Mana. The gameplay focuses on sword combat, with the view of a top-down perspective similar to what Secret of Mana used in the game. The player will traverses the world and make their way through dungeons while fighting monsters along the way.
4. Secret of Mana (Android, iOS)
Secret of Mana is known for a high quality action-RPG that could stand up to Zelda series in both the quality and timelessness. This game is another creation of Square, as the expert in making wonderful RPG for consoles. The game was originally released in 1993 for SNES and has been ported to mobile phones in 2009, but the enhanced port of the game was released in 2010 (iOS) and in 2014 (Android).
Secret of Mana features three main characters fighting an empire which tries to take over the world by abusing the power of Mana. The strong point in this game is the detail of the visuals, where you can see the bones-littering cavern floor, or colorful flowers and plant-life lining the trails as we walk upon. The water and clouds also moves naturally, giving life to the visualization of the graphics.
5. Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride (Android, iOS)
Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride is a RPG developed by Square Enix and also the fifth installment of the Dragon Quest series. It was the first Dragon Quest title to be released on SNES, and later re-released for PlayStation 2 and Nintendo DS. Because of its popularity and loyal fans of Dragon Quest series, the developer made it available for Android and iOS in 2014 (Japan) and 2015 (worldwide).
The game takes place over roughly thirty years of the main character’s life, from when he is born through to when he gets married and has a family. So, the game will follow the hero from his childhood to adulthood to parenthood. This divides the game into 3 separate eras. The game retains all of the typical elements of Dragon Quest series with respect to enemies, levels, equipments, etc.
6. Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King (Android, iOS)
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King was originally made for PlayStation 2, and ported to 3DS with the same title. The Android and iOS version of the game was released in 2013 in Japan and worldwide in 2014. The trademark of this game is its artwork made by Akira Toriyama (known as the creator of Dragon Ball), and the cell-shading textures that was popular in PlayStation 2 before.
In this game, we will play as the silent hero (players can create a name for him) who is a royal guard of Trodain. One day, the villain boss Dhoulmagus cast a spell on the castle and turn everyone into animals and plants. It is the job of the hero and his companions to bring peace back to the world.
7. Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (iOS)
Monster Hunter Freedom Unite is the western release of the Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G. It was released for PlayStation Portable in 2008 and iOS in 2014. This famous action-RPG franchise of PlayStation has over 500 hours of gameplay, and previously unreleased monsters, weapons, and missions. Monster Hunter Freedom Unite was the biggest game of the series for its time.
Players can experience the adventure with up to four friends for a thrilling and savaging multiplayer hunting party. From devising the strategy to execute the attack, a team play is necessary and really important especially when we decided to hunt ferocious beasts which have greater strength and wider attack range.
Playing ported RPG on Android/iOS is never boring, especially for classic game lovers. The problem is can we find the game and the respective emulator to make it work.
