Are you trying to find your favorite game genre to accompany you at the end of the year? If you think you need it, then you need long-duration genre such as RPG. For you who don’t go anywhere for holiday, you know how lonely it will be without gadgets and exciting games. So without further ado, let me present you these 6 recommended RPG you can play this week, next week, or on year’s end!
1. Avabel Lupinus (Android, iOS)
Avabel Lupinus is a MMORPG developed by Asobimo, a Japanese game developer known to have produced great games such as Toram Online, Celes Arca, Alchemia Story and many more. Avabel Lupinus used an open world gameplay with anime-style character design. So far there are 8 classes that you can choose and this game shares similar mechanics with Toram Online but with more advance approach.
2. Perfect World Mobile (Android, iOS)
Perfect World Mobile is a MMORPG published by Perfect World Entertainment for mobile devices in 2019. Perfect World Mobile is an authentic experience bringing new life to the denizens and vast area of the familiar Perfect Continent. Known for its stunning environments, unique flight system, and rich character customization, the creator tries to bring back the glory of the Perfect World (PC) into mobile devices.
3. Last Cloudia (Android, iOS)
Last Cloudia is a RPG developed and published by Aidis for mobile devices in 2019. The English version has been released in the United States and Canada on October 2019. Classified as strategy RPG just like Brave Exvius, this game gives different feels and gameplay mechanism. As a strategy RPG, Last Cloudia is featured with PvP and PvE system wrapped in a game with an interesting plot.
4. Grandia HD Remaster (Switch, PC)
Grandia is a series of RPG that has been developed by Game Arts throughout the whole series and has been published over the years by many well-known publishers. The first game is Grandia that was released on PlayStation in 1997. The game has HD remaster on Switch and PC under the title: Grandia HD Collection, consisting of Grandia and Grandia II with enhanced UI, sprites, and texture art details.
The story of Grandia centers around a young man named Justin who always dreamed about being an adventurer, like his father. The Spirit Stone that his father has given to him turns out to be the key to lead him and his companion in saving the world. Together with his companions: a childhood friend, an adventurer girl, a tribal boy and a rabbit, they embark on a journey to discover the secret of the Spirit Stone.
5. Doraemon: Story of Seasons (Switch, PC)
Doraemon: Story of Seasons is a farming simulation RPG developed by Brownies and Marvelous and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. The game was released on Switch and PC in 2019, with the game is actually a crossover of the Story of Seasons series and Doraemon franchise. Doraemon: Story of Seasons was supposed to be Switch exclusive, but the publisher decided to release it also on PC.
This game brings out almost all elements we can find in Harvest Moon. From gardening, planting crops, raising livestocks, and even interacting with the townspeople. Not only that, if you have played Harvest Moon before and encountered the Harvest Goddess, you can find her again in this game. And since it involves Doraemon, there will be a lot of his useful gadgets to help us taking care of the farm.
6. Monster Hunter World: Iceborne (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC)
Monster Hunter: World is an action RPG developed and published by Capcom for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. For your information, Monster Hunter: World is the sixth-best-selling PlayStation 4 game. The Iceborne expansion is a fully-fledged paid expansion which was available in September 2019. The expansion is equivalent in size to previous Monster Hunter games “G Rank” or “Ultimate” entries.
The expansion was confirmed to be the sequel to the original Monster Hunter: World, so it is wise to play the original game first before trying this expansion. Monster Hunter World: Iceborne introduces new region covered in thick snow along with new monsters and a new Elder Dragon: Velkhana. The Iceborne expansion also features higher Monster Rank quest and a deeper crafting system than before.

The year is coming to end soon but not with the games! We still have those wonderful RPG above as our companion during new year holiday. If I have to choose, my eyes and mind will easily choose Grandia HD Remaster since I have played the PlayStation version. It is hard to miss that one. But for mobile RPG, I’m interested to try Last Cloudia, since the artwork is quite enchanting for me.
