5 Highly Recommended Anime-Styled Mobile RPG

Record of Grancrest War

Anime is a term used for a hand drawing or computer animation originating or associated with Japan as one of its culture. Because there is a huge number of anime fans all over the world, game developer decided to make a game not entirely 3D. They will put this Japanese-style hand drawing into the world, characters, or even in the gameplay. And this trend also happens in mobile gaming.

With the mobile devices’ ability nowadays, it is easy to deliver a game with good graphics to the player’s eyes. Although it looks nicer to give a dominant element of 3D textures, there are still a lot of game developers that chose to maintain the 2D anime-style drawing in its game. And among a lot of popular RPG titles out there, I recommend you these 5 anime-styled mobile RPG you must try.

1. Revolve8: Episodic Dueling

Revolve8: Episodic Dueling is a mobile RPG published by SEGA CORPORATION for Android and iOS. If you are familiar with the game such as Clash Royale, then it is easier to understand the mechanism of this game as this game has many similarities with the gameplay. This game is a gatcha game, and for every gatcha with a character, it is dubbed by a voice actor, resulting in the cool cutscene when unsleashing special skills.

2. Another Eden: The Cat beyond Time and Space

Another Eden: The Cat Who Goes Beyond Time

Another Eden or also known as Another Eden: The Cat beyond Time and Space, is a free-to-play RPG for mobile devices developed by Wright Flyer Studios and published by GREE, Inc. The game features the collaboration of writer Masato Kato and music composer Yasunori Mitsuda who both work for legendary RPG Xenogears and Chrono series in PlayStation.

That is why, when you see one of the character in the form of a frog, you might remember your playtime with Frog from Chrono Trigger. This game uses a lot of JRPG elements so it is easy to get used with the gameplay since it has a classic turn-based battle mechanism. This game has an interesting gameplay and storyline, added with the beautiful graphics that are far better the classic RPG.

Record of Grancrest War: Quartet Conflict is an action RPG published by BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment for mobile devices. This game is a mini version of Dynasty Warriors series that was known for its hack-and-slash gameplay. Record of Grancrest War: Quartet Conflict uses the same gameplay mechanism but came in a much simpler packaging.

In this game, we will face a huge number of enemies and have to get rid of them in order to be able to pass on to the next stage. We need to defeat enemy troops which consist of more than 20 personels. Not only that there will be enemy boss in every stage to make things more challenging. If you like a royal rumble-type of game, then I suggest you to try this one.

5. Valkyrie Anatomia: The Origin

Valkyrie Anatomia: The Origin is a RPG developed and published by Square Enix initially in 2016 for Android and iOS devices. This game serves as a prequel to the PlayStation’s Valkyrie Profile story. Still implementing the turn-based battle mechanism, this game involves character’s gatcha in its gameplay. The good combination of characters with our play style will bring victory to our team.

The story takes place before the plot of original Valkyrie Profile, with the setting inspired by Norse mythology. The setting is divided into nine worlds, including Midgard and Asgard. It was told at the beginning of the game that world’s balance is lost and the realms are plunged into an unending war. The people of the worlds await the coming of Battle Maiden Valkyrie to end the turmoil.

With the touch of anime elements, those games become a must-play RPG with the combination of anime artwork and JRPG typical gameplay. Choosing between all those games is really hard, they are really a good ones. But if I have to choose, I will go with Another Eden: The Cat beyond Time and Space, since I’m a fan of turn-based RPG. Besides, it comes from the maker of Chrono series though.
