5 Best Free to Play Multiplayer RPG You Must Try!

RPG is a game genre where the player usually plays alone from the beginning until the end of the game. Because of the development is RPG scene, developers start to create RPG with multiplayer option. The good thing is, some of them can be played without using any cash at all. So as a fellow RPG lover, let me recommend these 5 best free-to-play multiplayer RPG for you to try.

1. TERA (PlayStation 4, PC)

TERA is a Korean MMORPG developed by BlueHole Inc. and En Masse Entertainment. This game is classified as an action MMORPG, and offers you an exciting and addictive gameplay just like when you play other MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) games. Without the need of you to spend any cash, it promises a nice gameplay mechanism along with its features, especially for you who love PvP and PvE.

Some people might say that the game’s plot and lore is quite weak, but they have to admit that this game has an amazing combat system called True Action Combat. With the unique battle mechanism, timing is everything for winning a battle, especially the stronger enemies or bosses. Aside from combat, TERA allows you to take part in communities and interact with other players online.

2. Warframe (Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC)

Warframe is a free-to-play cooperative action RPG combined with third-person shooter game developed and published by Digital Extremes in 2013. The game is originally created for PC, but because of the good reception it was later ported to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch.

In Warframe, players will control members of the Tenno, race of ancient warriors who have awoken from centuries of cryosleep to find themselves at war in planetary system with different factions. The Tenno will use their powered Warframes along with powerful weapons and abilities to complete missions with procedurally-generated levels, including large open world area similar to other MMORPG.

3. Paladins (Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC)

Paladins or also known as Paladins: Champions of the Realms is a free-to-play online hero-shooter game with RPG elements by Hi-Rez Studios. The game was initially released in 2016, and was actually developed by Evil Mojo Games, internal studio of Hi-Rez. The game was released not long after Overwatch in 2016, and offers you many kinds of heroes differ in classes.

4. Path of Exile (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC)

Path of Exile is a free-to-play action RPG developed and published by Grinding Gear Games. The game was initially released for PC in, 2013, Xbox One version in 2017, and PlayStation 4 version in 2019. Players will control a single character from an overhead perspective and explores large outdoor areas and caves or dungeons, battling monsters and fulfilling quests from NPCs.

5. Final Fantasy XIV (PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PC)

Final Fantasy XIV is a MMORPG developed and published by Square Enix in 2010. Using the same name with the main franchise, Final Fantasy XIV offers a similar gameplay and elements of the Final Fantasy series. Before it was only available on PC, but now you can also play it on PlayStation 4. This game is a breath of fresh air for both Final Fantasy series’ lover and newcomers.

Aside from its status as an online game, Final Fantasy XIV is fully equipped with stunning visuals and amazing soundtrack, as what the developer best known for along with a good storyline to follow. Final Fantasy XIV is free to be played until level 35, and after that you must pay for the subscription fee to be able to continue. There are six races of characters and seven classes available for you to choose.

Playing RPG alone is already nice, but with the option to play it in multiplayer mode is even more exciting. With the availability of multiplayer gameplay, the fun is also multiplied for us RPG lovers. My favorite from the list goes to Path of Exile. I’m a JRPG lover, but with the Diablo-like gameplay now I’m interested with Path of Exile. Going to try it soon for sure!
