Last month, we get a lot of updates about consoles, ranging from the launch of Nintendo Switch to Sony ending PlayStation 3‘s production. Many updates about RPG’s big names also made their way to March’s news of the month. This month, the trend continues. Are you ready to read more news coming from big names this month?

  • Kingdom Hearts Union χ [Cross]

Kingdom Hearts Union χ [Cross] - Title

Previously, Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ rebrands the game into a new title, Kingdom Hearts Union χ [Cross]. This time, we’ll bring you what’s new in the game: multiplayer mode, theater mode, and more!

  • The Legend of Heroes

The Legend of Heroes gets quite a number of news this month. Firstly, The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky has its release date announced. It launches on May the 3rd. Additionally, The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel will get ported to PC. The other series, The Legend of Heroes: Trails in Cold Steel II will also get a PC release as well.

New games announced!

  • Code Vein

Code Vein

Bandai Namco announced a vampire action RPG titled Code Vein. In here, you can check the game’s story and, prepare your eyes, high quality screenshots of the game!

  • Harvest Moon Lil’ Farmers

Harvest Moon franchise is coming to smartphones! This entry will be called Harvest Moon Lil’ Farmers and is developed by Rising Star GamesNatsume, and Daredevil Development. It will launch worldwide on May 25th.

  • Onigo Hunter

KEMCO's New RPG Onigo Hunter Is Available Now Worldwide!

KEMCO has a new RPG that is now available worldwide called Onigo HunterThe game is for Android and can be downloaded right away from the Google Playstore.

  • Re: Zero VR

Gugenka, Japanese anime VR maker, announced that they’re going to release a VR game for the Re: Zero series! The game will be be called Re: Zero – Life is a Different World by VR – and will be available for both iOS and Android. Check the link for juicy screenshots of Rem as your waifu!

  • Tokyo Dark

Independent game studio Cherry Mochi will launch a horror VN called Tokyo Dark! The game was previously running as a Kickstarter project and later successfully backed by Square Enix Collective! Check the trailer and story here!

  • Zanki Zero

Post-Apocalyptic RPG Zanki Zero Announced by Danganronpa Developer!

Spike Chunsoft, the developer of Danganronpa, make a post-apocalyptic RPG called Zanki Zero. As it is still in development, not much is known about the game. However, overview and a few screenshots can be seen here.

Atlus revealed a digital deluxe edition for The Caligula Effect! The game is also planned to launched as a digital deluxe in edition. You can check the bundle here.

  • I Am Setsuna

I Am Setsuna

This is not an announcement about I Am Setsuna‘s release date, but one of the game’s new feature! Square Enix has finally revealed the release date of the “Temporal Battle Arena”, April 13th.

  • Dragon Quest XI

The new installment in Dragon Quest seriesDragon Quest XI finally got release date. Sadly, it will only available in Japan on July 29th. Global fans still have to wait for another announcement from Square Enix for global released, tho.

  • Ever Oasis

Ever Oasis

This cute RPG that was revealed during E3 2016 will finally be available to play! But, you still have to wait until the release date, June 23rd, as announced by Nintendo. At least the game will be available in the US, tho.

  • The Great Ace Attorney 2

The Great Ace Attorney 2

The wait for the release of another Ace Attorney installment is almost over! Capcom has revealed the release date, August 3rd. But, it will only available in Japan. Global fans still have to wait for another release date announcement.

  • Snack World

Snack World

Yet another Japan only release! This cute and funny RPG by Level-5 finally have a release date! July 13rd for Nintendo 3DS, and sometime on December this year for iOS and Android.

  • Lady Layton

Lady Layton

With the new name of Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and The Millionaire’s Conspiracy, the wait for this Lady Layton game from the Professor Layton series is almost over! It will be released on July 20th for Nintendo 3DSiOS, and Android!

  • RPG Maker FES

RPG Maker FES

Originally only can be found in Japan, this RPG Maker game that gets western release was announced to released on June 23rd in Europe, and June 27th in North America.

  • √Letter (Root Letter)

Letter

Kadokawa Games has gave a great news! Formerly a Playstatione-exclusive Visual Novel, √Letter (Root Letter) finally going to PC! Those who want to play but can’t because don’t have either a Playstation 4 or Playstation Vita can finally play it!

  • Star Ocean: Till The End of Time

Star Ocean: Till The End of Time

One of the classic Star Ocean games, Star Ocean: Till The End of Time, gets a Playstation 4 version! It is already available to play, but the version still only available in Japan.

  • Iwaihime: Matsuri

Iwaihime: Matsuri

Carving a horor visual novel? Don’t worry! Nippon Ichi Software is planning to release Iwaihime: Matsuri, previously a PC exclusie, to release for other console! Namely the Playstation 4 and Playstation Vita.

  • Superdimension Neptune VS Sega Hard Girls

Superdimension Neptune VS Sega Hard Girls

This Playstation Vita game will have another port to be played with! Idea Factory International has announced that it will be released for PC this Summer!

  • Night of Azure 2: Bride of The New Moon

Night of Azure 2: Bride of The New Moon

While the official release date is still unknown after another delay, Night of Azure 2: Bride of The New Moon gets a new console! Namely the new Nintendo Switch!

  • Omega Quintet

Omega Quintet

Cute girls, but kinda deadly or simply just strong. Omega Quintet that previously only available for Playstation 4 is having another portGhostlight is planning to bring the game to PC!

Localization to English Announced

  • Trinoline

Trinoline - Screenshot 2During the Anime Boston 2017 event, MangaGamer revealed that inori‘s romance VN Trinoline is heading to the west this year! The sci-fi adventure tells the story of a boy who met an android called TRINO, which looked very similar with his drowned sister. The localization will brings both the all ages and the 18+ versions!

  • Romancing SaGa 3

Romancing SaGa 3 RemasteredThe classic Super Famicom game from 1995 will be heading to the west! Square Enix will release the game for both mobile (Android and iOS) and PS Vita!

  • Miitopia, Yo-Kai Watch 2: Psychic Specters & Monster Hunter Stories

Nintendo Announced Western Release for Monster Hunter Stories, Yo-Kai Watch 2: Shinuchi, and Miitopia!Great news for 3DS owners! Nintendo announced three games: Miitopia, Yo-Kai Watch 2: Psychic Specters, and Monster Hunter Stories! to be headed into both North America and Europe this year! Miitopia and the Monster Hunter Stories was previously a Japan-only titles.

  • Little Busters!

Fruitbat Factory is going to localize VisualArts‘ VN Little Busters! The game features the story of a depressed boy and his four childhood friends. In total, there are 9 different routes that players can achieve! It is currently in pre-alpha development, and is planned to be released for PC soon this year!

  • Collar X Malice

Collar X Malice - Screenshot 6Otome visual novel Collar X Malice is getting a localization! Aksys Games is planning to bring the game for both North America and Europe as soon as this Summer. Play as a young female police office as she investigates a mysterious attack alongside 5 ex-policemen!

  • Final Fantasy XV: A New Empire

Final Fantasy XV: A New Empire Revealed as MMO Final Fantasy XV

Earlier in April, Square Enix announced a spinoff to Final Fantasy XV, titled Final Fantasy XV: A New Empire. The game came out as an MMO/RTS/City builder game for smartphones. Click here to see further details.

  • Ys Origin

Ys Origin Gets Physical Release for PS4 & PS Vita!

Initially released in PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita as a digital release, Limited Run Games announced on their Twitter that Ys Origin will be getting a physical release for both platform.

  • The Alliance Alive

The Alliance Alive

FuRyu released a new trailer for The Alliance Alive, available on Nintendo 3DS. The new trailer focuses on showing how the “Talent System” works in the game. See the detail here.

SINoALICE - Key Visual

Helmed by Yoko Taro as Creative Director, SINoALICE gets its first trailer, showing a glimpse of its gameplay, as revealed by Square Enix. Click here to see the first trailer of this fairy tale-inspired smartphone game.

  • NiOh

Action RPG NiOh First Story DLC "Dragon of The North" Release Date Revealed!

Koei Tecmo revealed the release date for NiOh‘s first story DLC “Dragon of the North”. Judging by the artwork and the name of the DLC, the story will be focusing on Masamune Date, one of the most famous Daimyo of the Sengoku era.

  • Legrand Legacy

Legrand Legacy - Title Screen

SemiSoft released a brand new gameplay footage of Legrand Legacy, showing battle and city exploration, taken from the alpha version of the game. The company later on announced that the alpha demo was made available exclusively to backers. They also gave us a copy of the alpha version of the game.

  • NieR: Automata

NieR: Automata First DLC Announced for West; Include New Costumes and Arena

Square Enix announced the first DLC for NieR: Automata titled “3C3C1D119440927” in a livestream, celebrating one million shipment milestone. The DLC includes costumes for the playable characters, special bullets, and more.

  • Shiness: The Lightning Kingdom

Fury RPG Shiness: The Lightning Kingdom Is Available Now; Launch Trailer Revealed!

Shiness: The Lightning Kingdom is now available worldwide for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC! To celebrate the occasion, publisher Focus Home Interactive released a launch trailer.

  • Dissidia Final Fantasy Arcade

Dissidia Final Fantasy Arcade - Bahamut

April’s update for Dissidia Final Fantasy for Arcade adds Bahamut into the game as a summon, as announced by Square Enix. Click here to see further details.

  • Final Fantasy XV

Final Fantasy XV - Afrosword

Patch 1.09 for Final Fantasy XV is already up since April 27. The latest update brings Afrosword into the game, a great sword-type weapon resulted from a collaboration with the world-famous DJ Afrojack.

  • Final Fantasy XIV

In the most recent Final Fantasy XIV Live Letter stream, Naoki Yoshida gave out more details on what to expect in the upcoming Stormblood expansion. The PC benchmark for the expansion was also released, allowing fans to perform benchmark and see how their PC can handle the expansion.

  • Dragon Quest Heroes II

Dragon Quest Heroes II Is Available Now; Launch and Character Trailers Revealed!

Dragon Quest Heroes II is now available for PlayStation 4 (North America) and PC (worldwide). Square Enix released a launch trailer and also a character trailer to celebrate the occasion.

  • The Caligula Effect

Atlus released a new trailer for FuRyu‘s RPG The Caligula Effect, previewing the game’s battle system, as well as provided some screenshots of the gameplay.

  • Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girl

Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultimate Despair Girls Announced - 6The PS4 and PC version of Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls is getting a new trailer! The clip shows off various in-game CGs, including gameplay scenes! The game will release soon on June 27th.

  • The Eden of Grisaia

The Eden of Grisaia - Screenshot 2The Eden of Grisaia is finally here! Sekai Project has released the final episode of the first Grisaia trilogy through Steam for PC! The game continues where the last installment ends, as the protagonist went missing!

  • Persona 5 Vynil Soundtrack

Persona 5 Vynil Soundtrack Is Available for Pre-Order!Persona 5 is getting a vinyl soundtrack by iam8bit! It is currently available to pre-order, coming in 2 editions: The Essential Edition with the price of $100 that only have 4 selected vinyls soundtracks including Persona 5’s most popular soundtracks, and The Deluxe Edition with the price of $175, and all of the game’s soundtracks! This edition contains 6 vinyls, but it’s limited to only 1,000 copies.


And that’s it for this month’s news of the month! You can see that important RPG updates get quite a long section this month. My personal favorite this month would be new details and collector edition for Atlus‘ The Caligula Effect, followed with Legrand Legacy‘s alpha demo. How about yours?
