NieR: Automata is an action RPG developed by Platinum Games and published by Square Enix. It was first announced at E3 2015 to release sometime in 2016, and made another appearance in this year’s E3. Square Enix announced that NieR: Automata will be released on early 2017, instead of the initally-planned 2016 release.
As much as the publisher wants to release the game in November this year, there were concerns about the game going head-to-head with a lot of major titles which are going to be released later this holiday season. Therefore, winter/spring release is believed would be a great time for NieR: Automata to hit the market.
With the game release date delayed, the development team believe that the extra time would be helpful to make sure Platinum Games is able to deliver what they are known for: well-balanced hardcore action, and to make it enjoyable for the fans of the original game, as well as newcomers.
NieR: Automata tells the story about three androids codenamed 2B, 9S, and A2 in their battle to reclaim the mechanoid-driven dystopia which is overrun by powerful weapons called “machine lifeforms“.
The overview of the story is as follows:
Invaders from another world attack without warning, unleashing their secret weapon: the machines. In the face of this insurmountable threat, the human race is driven from the earth and takes refuge on the moon.
The humans develop an army of android soldiers to fight back against the mechanical horde, but succeed only in slowing its advance. To break the deadlock, a new breed of android infantry is sent into the fray: the YoRHa squad.
In the forsaken wasteland below, the war between the machines and the androids rages on. A war that is soon to unveil the long-forgotten truth of this world…
