7 Powerful RPG Heroines You’ll Fall in Love With

| By: Hikaru

In the past, women often perceived as a weak being that needs protection all the time. But as the time goes on, women are now on equal terms with men in many aspect. Even in video games nowadays there are lots of women depicted as strong as men, or even stronger. With that comes into mind, let us check my choice of 7 powerful RPG heroines you’ll fall in love with!

1. Yuna (Final Fantasy X)

FFX Yuna

Don’t judge a book by its cover, they say. At first glance when you see Yuna, you might think that she’s just an ordinary 17 year old female. Not to mention she is depicted as shy and naive in the game. But make no mistakes, even at that such young age she already became a summoner (following her father’s footstep) in order to expel Sin from Spira. You really need a very strong resolve to sacrifice yourself just to give a few years of peace to the people. And that’s what Yuna did. Ability wise, she’s the only character in the game that can summon aeons (8 in total). Equip her with her Celestial Weapons, she can easily break damage limit with her magic which only cost 1 MP!

2. Lenneth (Valkyrie Profile)

Valkyrie Profile Lenneth character art

The fact that she is a goddess should serve as a proof of how powerful she is (lol). She’s an excellent fighter specializes in swordplay, and also proficient with bows. Other than that, she is also have to seem control over astral powers as she is able to make crystals and break magic spells. Her unique ability is that she can synchronize her soul with a hero prior to his/her death, while at the same time uses it to presence evil creatures. At first her powers were just static like other gods. But after certain event in the game, she gained the Power of Creation (just like Odin). With that power she restored the two worlds and revived the perished humans.

3. Mitsuru Kirijo (Persona 3)

Persona 3 Mitsuru art

The leader of S.E.E.S, student council president, an heir to a rich company, member of fencing team, a valedictorian. That sums up who Mitsuru is. Not to mention her intelligence and confidence, to make her a great all-around leader. When I said she’s an heir to a rich company, it’s because the passing of her father and the company’s weight is on her shoulders. In order to preserve the company, a marriage has been arranged for her. She must marry much older president of one of the company’s affiliates. The old guy order her to be obedient and adjust to his schedule. And here’s where Mitsuru showing her resolve: she break through and reject the life that has been arranged for her. The engagement is called off, and she lives her life on her own terms. Sometimes being strong not only measured by raw power, but showing courage and heart when you need to.

4. Shanoa (Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia)

Castlevania Shanoa chara art

Shanoa is the representative of Order of Ecclesia, the only group capable of exterminating Dracula in Belmont’s absence. Her ability to absorb Glyphs using the large rune on her back provide her with magical weapon. She is often seen wielding a crimson-colored rapier, but she can actually use any weapon granted by her glyphs. Up to three glyphs can be used, and she can combine them to unleash devastating combos either with a spell or massive weapon. The weapons range from scythes, axes, daggers, lances, hammers, and swords. The spells range from summoning fierce wind, lighting orbs, giant stone fists, fireballs, ice shards, and blasts of lights or darkness. Her glyphs also grant her the ability to swing from place to place using magnetic force or transform into monsters such as cat-woman or winged werebat.

5. Aloy (Horizon: Zero Dawn)

Horizon Zero Dawn Aloy art

Aloy’s desire to know her origins became her life goal. When she discovered that she wasn’t a human child but the clone of Elisabet Sobeck created by GAIA, she was completely shattered. However, she then demonstrated her great emotional resilience and pull herself together. She realized that she was created in order to protect the world from being destroyed.

Ability wise, Aloy has a great acrobatic skill and can scale rock faces easily. Even fast enough to dodge charging machines. Her knowledge of machines is very complex, and she can combine materials salvaged from them with natural materials to craft ammo, traps, and tools. A hunter by nature, Aloy is an excellent tracker and capable to track trails made by humans or machines.

6. Lightning (Final Fantasy XIII)

FF XII Lightning character art

Final Fantasy XIII (and its sequels) might not the best FF series out there, but it doesn’t mean it’s all bad stuff. As the second heroine from Final Fantasy that makes the cut into my list, Lightning offers something different from Yuna. While Yuna serves primarily  as healer and magic user, Lightning is a more balanced character than Yuna. She is also quicker and more agile, while wielding gunblades (female version of Squall, perhaps?). As her weapon transforms, she can do both long range and melee attacks in Commando paradigm. Magic-wise she is utilitarian, meaning she can use all four elemental strike attacks, all elemental “-ra” magic, as well as Thundaga. She might lack of HP, but she can be a good Sentinel as she learns all of the role’s passive abilities. By pairing a certain ability with another certain gear, she can easily avoid a large amount of damage.

7. Aya Brea (Parasite Eve)

Parasite Eve Aya character art

Aya went to an opera with her date when suddenly people bursting into flames right before her eyes. Instead of running away in panic, she tells her date to wait outside while she handles the frenzy situation. Mutant rats, giant worms, and even dinosaurs, you name it. She face them all with just a gun, in a situation where most men would wet their pants. In addition to being proficient with various firearms, Aya also uses powerful Parasite Energy attacks and abilities, using them to heal herself, launch psychokinetic attacks, and even physically transform herself.

That’s all for my selection of powerful RPG heroines. Yuna is my favorite since she also shown great courage and resolve despite her young age. The definition of powerful/strong itself may varies, but I think having a strong will and heart is just as important as having raw power. As usual, kindly share your thoughts in the section comment below.
